Why are our slatted bed bases eco-designed?

At ABC Meubles, every product we manufacture is designed to last, to be harmless to your health and to respect the environment. That's why our solid wood bed bases are eco-designed. But what does this mean in practical terms? And how can we prove it to you in a transparent way? That's where the Eco Impact Score comes in, an independent tool that measures the environmental and social impact of each product.

Eco-design at the heart of our approach

Making an eco-designed slat base means doing much more than simply producing it locally. It starts with the choice of materials. We use solid pine from sustainably managed forests, mainly located in the south-west of France, in the beautiful Landes region. The wood is selected without knots (on the visible parts) to guarantee flawless aesthetics.

Our bed bases are then manufactured in our workshop in Normandy, which drastically reduces the carbon footprint associated with transport. No solvents, no toxic varnishes: we only use water-based finishes, which are harmless to your health and to the planet.

Eco-design also means thinking about the product's life cycle: a bed base that can be dismantled, repaired and recycled is a piece of furniture that doesn't end up in the rubbish bin too soon.
