ABC Meubles bunk beds, not just for children!
Bunk beds are no longer just for children's bedrooms. Thanks to their sturdy design and suitable dimensions, they are an ideal solution for adults, families and even holiday homes. Discover how our solid wood models combine comfort, safety and space-saving features for both children and adults.
Can an adult sleep in a bunk bed?
For a long time, bunk beds were associated with children's bedrooms, but today, many models are designed to accommodate adults as well. Some bunk beds on the market offer a capacity of 100 to 120 kg per bed, but many standard models remain limited and unsuitable for adults.
At ABC Meubles, we have designed all our bunk beds for use by adults and children. Our DUO, ABC 2-seater (slanted and straight ladder), ABC 3-seater and ABC 4-seater models can support 120 kg per bed, with lengths of 190 cm; while the double bunk bed for adults can accommodate 2 adults per bed, with a capacity of up to 250 kg per bed and lengths of 200 cm.

- DUO bunk bed: 2 places, separable – 90x190 cm
- ABC bunk bed: 2 places with straight ladder, 2 places with slanted ladder, 3 places and 4 places – 90x190 cm
- Sylvia with cube ladder: 120x200 cm (2x1 ½), 140x200 cm (2x2 places) and 160x200 cm (2x2 places)
- Sylvia with slanted ladder: 120x200 cm, 140x200 cm and 160x200 cm
The Sylvia model is modular to suit all spaces: the height can be increased or reduced by 20 cm according to your needs. This model can also accommodate storage drawers or a pull-out bed under the bottom bed base, as with the ABC 2-seater bunk bed with straight ladder and the DUO bunk bed.
Our bunk beds offer a practical, comfortable and durable solution for everyone, in all types of accommodation: studios, family bedrooms or seasonal accommodation.
What materials guarantee a sturdy adult bunk bed?
Bunk beds on the market are made from a variety of materials, each with its own advantages and limitations. Reclaimed wood or composite panels are lightweight and economical, but their sturdiness is limited, and the weight they can support is often less than 100 kg per bed. Metal beds can offer good strength and support heavy loads, but their appearance and comfort differ from the warmth of wood, and some models may squeak or require special maintenance. Solid wood, on the other hand, remains the most reliable material for adult bunk beds: it combines strength, durability and aesthetics, provided that the design and hardware are of high quality.
At ABC Meubles, we have chosen solid wood from sustainably managed forests and reinforced hardware made in France for all our bunk beds.

All our models can support 120 kg per bed for standard models and up to 250 kg for double adult bunk beds. Each adult bunk bed can be assembled and disassembled several times, perfect for moving house and everyday life. Each model comes with a 2-year warranty, with parts available for life, and offers superior strength compared to beds made from reconstituted or composite materials, as well as optimal comfort for adults (and children).
What are the safety standards for adult bunk beds?
Safety is an essential criterion, whether the bunk bed is intended for a child, an adult or collective use. All bunk beds sold in Europe must comply with standards EN 747-1 and 2, which define requirements for strength, stability and safety. These standards guarantee the solidity of the frame, the reliability of the ladder, the height of the safety rail and the spacing between the beds.
The upper bunk is reserved for persons aged 6 years and older, in accordance with regulations. The space between the two bed bases must allow a person to sit comfortably without bumping their head (i.e. at least 80 cm), while the safety barrier on the upper bunk must extend at least 16 cm above the mattress to prevent falls during sleep.
For communities (holiday centres, lodgings, boarding schools, tourist accommodation or hospitals), these requirements are even stricter: structures must comply with standard NF EN 747-1+A1:2015, accompanied by a CE mark certifying compliance with load, resistance and stability tests.
At ABC Meubles, all our bunk beds are designed in accordance with these safety standards, ensuring peace of mind for both family and professional use. Our adult bunk beds combine comfort, robustness and compliance, without compromising on design or durability.
What size should you choose for an adult bunk bed?
The choice of bunk bed size depends mainly on the use and the type of adults who will be using it. In terms of length, 200 cm is ideal for an adult, allowing them to sleep fully stretched out and comfortably. A length of 190 cm is suitable for temporary use, such as in holiday accommodation, a studio flat or a guest room, where optimising space is important.
When it comes to width, the options vary depending on the level of comfort desired. A 90×190 cm bunk bed is a standard size for one person, while a 120×200 cm bunk bed offers plenty of room to turn over, stretch out or sleep like a starfish.
For double bunk beds for adults, several sizes are available depending on the desired comfort and intended use. The 140×200 cm is a standard double size and the 160×200 cm offers maximum comfort (also known as a queen-size bunk bed for adults).
Please note that accommodating 4 adults in the same bunk bed is more suitable for a temporary stay (e.g. for holidays), as sharing the same room on a daily basis with 4 people is not ideal for everyone's comfort and privacy.
In summary, the choice of size must take into account the length required for each adult, the desired width for comfort, and the type of accommodation or use (daily, temporary or shared) so that each adult can enjoy a comfortable bed that suits their needs.
Conclusion
ABC Meubles bunk beds are not just for children. With their sturdiness, suitable dimensions, design (2 beds, 3 beds or 4 beds) and modular options (separable, built-in storage, drawers under the bed, etc.), they offer a practical and durable solution for all ages. Whether for a studio, holiday home or family bedroom, you can sleep soundly in a bunk bed designed to last.
