ABC Meubles, an unwavering commitment to the environment
The ecological dimension has always been an important part of our DNA.
For over 16 years, we have made a number of choices to maintain a fundamental pillar of our business: preserving the environment and the well-being of everyone.
First and foremost, our raw materials are of French origin, as close as possible to our workshop in Normandy. Our metal bed bases come from Nogent sur Seine, our cardboard from Cabourg, our varnishes from Sillé-le-Guillaume, our mattresses from Niort...
As for our wood, mainly solid pine, it comes from the Landes region, from controlled management forests.
Then, in order to respect both your well-being and the environment, from the outset we opted for a solvent-free, water-based varnish that limits VOC emissions. We have also adopted the finger-joint technique to minimise the use of glue in the manufacture of our furniture. We only use glue when it is strictly necessary, using a category E1 issue, whose emissions are kept below 1mg/m3. In this way, our furniture respects the health of everyone, from toddlers to adults.
What's more, we quickly made the decision to reduce our energy consumption by switching to LED lighting (which uses 80% less energy than traditional lighting) and by introducing more efficient compressors that consume less energy.
These changes have enabled us to reduce our energy consumption by 50%!
And that's not all!
Aware that Rome wasn't built in a day, we are constantly seeking to optimise our production methods to respect our fabulous French ecosystem.
Here's a look back at the last 3 years, during which we have strengthened our environmental commitments.
1) 100 trees planted in Orne in 2021
By preserving biodiversity and improving air and water quality, trees play a crucial role in preserving our environment.
In addition to their vital environmental role, trees also represent our essential raw material, and we wanted to make a full commitment to actively contributing to the renewal of this precious plant resource.
With this in mind, we decided to do our bit to support the Trees Everywhere initiative "Plant 1 billion trees in France by 2023" by planting 100 trees in the Orne region, in the heart of the beautiful Normandy forest of Saint Denis sur Sarthon.
2) Towards greener energy: we're going solar in 2022
In 2022, our commitment to protecting the environment was further strengthened by a major initiative: the installation of solar panels on our site. This strategic decision demonstrates our determination to reduce our environmental impact while promoting a transition to cleaner, more sustainable energy sources.
The newly installed solar panels have the capacity to supply 40% of our energy needs, a significant step forward in our drive to reduce our carbon footprint.
This initiative reflects our commitment to adopting more environmentally-friendly practices and working towards a more sustainable future.
3) Modernisation of our machinery in 2023
To strike the right balance between employee comfort, respect for the environment and customer satisfaction, we keep abreast of technological advances in our machinery.
That's why in 2023 we invested in a painting robot, which offers a number of advantages:
- Optimum customer satisfaction, by guaranteeing controlled spraying that ensures perfect coverage without excess varnish. This advantageous approach also benefits the company, by minimising varnish consumption to what is strictly necessary.
- This painting robot includes a drying tunnel that works a bit like an air dehumidifier, by absorbing humidity from the space. The water obtained, which is clean and demineralised, is reused in the manufacture of the varnishes.
« Nothing is lost, everything is transformed! » Lavoisier
- A process for recycling varnish residues separates the water from the pigments, so the water discharged into the drains is clear and unpolluted.
As you can see, we have a strong ecological commitment, anchored in concrete action on several fronts.
Our approach, based on using local raw materials, reducing our energy consumption, adopting solar panels, and innovating in environmentally-friendly production, demonstrates our determination to preserve the planet, one piece of furniture at a time!
